South Fork Fun!

Hey Everyone!

Ned and I recently returned from a trip to South Fork Colorado. We stayed at the South Fork Campground on Hwy 160 just east of town. We have stayed at this RV park before and we really like it. They have nice RV sites that back to the Rio Grande river. NOTE: These sites are very popular so you have to book early.....like a year in advance! The property is beautiful and Ned can fish from the riverbank. We have camped here in late June and late July.

The town of South Fork has several restaurants, RV parks, a grocery store, a gas station, a few sports outfitters and plenty of fun things to do including fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking and ATV rentals/trails. On this trip, 8200 Mountain Sports fixed us up with inflatable kayaks and we floated down the Rio Grande river (see pics) with our good friends Matt and Staci and their canine kiddo George. It was an easy float and we had a lot of fun.....even George?? This was his first float trip and George was very skeptical at first!

Kayaks loaded up.....luckily we were not going very far!!

Ned enjoying the day!

That's me.... I'm nervous !

Staci having fun and George still deciding!

Matt and George cooling off in the river.

A good friend will risk their life to get your lure from a tree!

We also discovered that there are also several places to fish for trout along the Rio Grande river. There is public water going up Hwy 160 towards Wolf Creek or going up Hwy 134 towards Creede, Co. You can stop in at one of the fly shops to get a map and some guidance on what flies to use and where to fish. Or better yet, maybe book a trip with a knowledgeable fishing guide for a fun day on the river. We fished in Coller State Wildlife area. The water was murky from a rainstorm but Ned still caught a nice brown trout (see pic).

We won't talk about the one that got away!!

From South Fork, if you take Hwy 160, it will take you over Wolf Creek Pass and into Pagosa Springs. It’s an incredible drive. In Pagosa Springs you can tube the river! Also, from South Fork, if you take Hwy 134 it will take you up to the town of Creede, Co. This is also a beautiful drive. The town is very quaint with lots of mining history.

On the road to Creede.

Here is the contact information for the South Fork Campground in case you want to check it out. They are open May 1st to October 1st.
