Davis’s do Dallas and a Case of Mistaken Identity.....

Hey Frens and Fam,

After our fun time with family down in South Louisiana, we boogied on up to Dallas to see more friends and family. Normally our road trips are pretty uneventful but this one was a little exciting! We had a tire blowout on the Interstate 20 around Kilgore, Texas! Although the experience was scary and somewhat of an inconvenience, when all said and done, we picked out the positives and found a few things that we are very thankful for.….. First, the tire monitoring system we bought on Amazon did its job. The monitor immediately alerted us of a problem (well, we did hear the pop too!). This is the second time we have had a flat on the interstate and because of the monitoring system, we had time to pull over before we ruin a rim or tear up other things on the trailer! Second, me personally, I am thankful for a husband who is really great with changing tires (Dad owned a gas station plus he is a real life MacGyver 😊) and he had us fixed and back on the road quickly! If I was alone, this chore would have been a huge struggle for me! Thirdly, we were so inspired to find that there are still some really nice people out on the road…. another fellow Rver stopped to see if we were ok and if we needed help. We are so thankful for our fellow RVers and road warriors, they can be very kind, helpful and supportive in time of need!

The Infamous Blow-out on I20

Once we made it to Dallas, we stayed at Hidden Cove Park. This is a beautiful park on Lake Lewisville. It is tucked back behind subdivisions, so I like to think of it as a “hidden gem.” The park has plenty of RV sites, some with full hookups. There is a marina and a beach that gives access to Lake Lewisville. There are also many miles of hiking and biking trails that weave through woodlands and around the lake. This is the first time we stayed at this rv park in the fall, and we thought it was very beautiful.

Our great friends Benny and Teresa live in Dallas – Oak Point, TX. We spent some time with them over at a winery in Aubrey, Tx. Fortunata is a beautiful outdoor space to share with friends. Their wine selection is very good, and they offer charcuterie and wood fired pizzas – which are delicious. Be sure to stop by and check them out. It’s a beautiful place to spend a romantic evening, special event, etc. Fortunata is only open in the evenings.

Also, in Dallas, McKinney to be exact, is our son in law and daughter, Derrel and Lacee. We like to visit with them when we can, and we always do fun things! On this trip, our other son Brady, who lives in Denver, flew down to Dallas so that we could all help him celebrate his 40th birthday. His mom, Stephanie and his step father, Luis were there too. We really celebrated in style! We surprised Brady with a limo ride to downtown Dallas where we dined at the famous Perry’s Steakhouse. What a fun evening and a fabulous dinner. Ned and I are pretty low key, and we are not “fancy” so this is not a restaurant we would normally go to, but we wanted Brady to have a fantastic birthday! The restaurant did not disappoint! The drinks, and food was amazing not to mention the great views of downtown. We loved celebrating his birthday with family and we made some special memories.

Our time in Dallas was over before we knew it and then we were on the road and headed for home. Dallas is about 12 hours from home, so we stopped and spent one night in Amarillo at the Oasis RV Resort. This is a great place if you are needing a stop for the night. You don’t even need to unhook your vehicle. The sites are concrete, very level and plenty long enough for bigger trailers and RVs. There is a small dog park, bath houses, a pool and hot tub. The place is very clean and great for individuals or families.

Cute entrance to the park.

Ok, funny story.……but first, a question….how many of you Rvers have ever hooked your rig up in the wrong site? Well, first time for us! And the story goes…… The office at the Oasis RV Resort was closed when we rolled into the park. When the office is closed, they post a reservation listing on the door with guest names and their assigned sites. So, someone (guess who 😊) looked at the list and noted that our assigned site was #68. We rolled on over to site #68 and got all setup. Once finished, we sat down to relax after the long drive. Ned said that a margarita sounded good, but we needed ice. Since we didn’t unhook our vehicle, we couldn’t drive to the store so we would need to walk down the street a block to get ice. While on our journey, we also realized we did not have the WIFI password, so we decided to swing by the office to see if it was posted on the office window. While we were at the office, I glanced at the site assignments again and to my surprise (and horror), I saw that we were supposed to be in site #88 and not site #68! Ned double checked then we quickly ran back to our site, unhooked everything, put everything back up, pulled in slides, etc. and loaded up to go and find our correct site. What a pain! The dogs were looking at us like we were crazy! Fortunately, we hadn’t unhooked the truck so it could have been a lot more work! Also fortunately, the other Rvers that were really supposed to be in site #68 had not shown up yet so we didn’t cause a problem for them! Here is the ironic part….…..The name on the list for the Rvers in site #68 was “Ross, David.” Ned’s first name is Ross, so he had registered as “Ross Davis”…… When he looked down the list, he saw the first Ross didn’t notice David with a “d” and off to the wrong site we went! Well….Davis vs David…..just wow! So easy to see how that mistake happened!! We are still laughing about it and I can still picture Ned dragging the disconnected sewer hose across the RV park to get to the correct site! I am sure anyone watching us got a really got a good laugh!!

Well, that’s all we have for now. We are back in Denver and will start planning our next adventure soon! Stay safe and stay well. We wish everyone Happy Holidays and hope your time with friends and family is truly special!
