Big Horn RV Trip

If you have never experienced camping in the Big Horn Mountains, then you are really missing out. This mountain range located west of Buffalo Wyoming has so much to offer. There are many national forest campgrounds sprawled out along Highway 16 that offer beautiful views of the outdoors including mountains, streams and lakes. We stayed at Doyle Creek. This campground is about 6 miles off of Highway 16. The road was partially paved but even the unpaved portion was in really good shape. Doyle Creek is a smaller campground nestled back in the pine trees. We camped with our good friends Bruce and Cyndy Petersen and Tom Cole and had so much fun!

There are several activities and things to do in the area. Several place to fish on both lakes and streams. There are numerous hikes and places to ride mountain bikes, dirt bikes or go four wheeling. If you feel like venturing a little further, go on over to Ten Sleep and check out the town and the Ten Sleep Brewery. Have a brew for us and tell them we said hello!

Here is a picture of the beautiful scenery from one of our longer hikes. This hike is called Misty Moon trail. It passes two high alpine lakes before reaching Misty Moon Lake. The scenery is just spectacular. Ned fished at the first lake (Lake Helen) and caught so many fish he lost count! Misty Moon Lake is beautiful but you will definitely need mosquito repellant. They were vicious!!

On the road to the campground.......I guess you could say we were really "mooving" down the road (HA!)

The lakes were so beautiful

If you hike Misty Moon, be sure to bring your water shoes......my good friend Cyndy makes it look so easy!

Ned enjoyed fishing at the dam at Tie Hack Reservoir but he got skunked..... but I caught a nice rainbow..... :)

Our hike along Clear Creek was great..... Can you see the skeleton face on the rock?

What about the faces on these rocks?

Gotta check out Ten Sleep Brewery!

We camped in mid July and the weather was really nice. Warm days and cool nights. To make reservations at Doyle Creek or any National Forest campground in the Big Horn area, you can use Recreation.gov We stayed in site #6 but all of the sites were nice and spacious. This is dry camping so you will need to go prepared.

If you get the chance to go, please send us pics! As always, we hope you are "Rving YOUR best life."

Hey Ned, we bought an RV too, but don’t have the courage to go full time. Maybe we will see y’all on the road sometime! Come to Arkansas sometime. It is a beautiful state and some very nice parks. We just got back from the Smoky Mountains and had a wonderful time. Give us a shout if you ever get this way. We would love to see y’all! Take care and have the time of your life! Jeff and Shelly
